     Covid is really affecting our world economy and world people. Additionally In India and some other countries fungus attack is started along with corona which is affecting the covid affecting patients who were in the recovery period.

    But many myths and wrong information is been passed along with the fungus spread. Here we are, two bloggers, to clear your doubts and facts about different fungus attacks.

MUCORMYCOSIS



     In India, covid surge resulted in a viral fungus spread namely Mucormycosis. It is also known as "Black Fungus". It is found in covid recovery stage patients. It is developed into Black, White, and Yellow-colored types too. The media is mentioning it with the color basis but it is scientifically called Mucormycosis.

NOT USUAL PARTNER



    The fungi are not a usual partner of humans. Humans were really immune towards fungi specifically Mucorales which includes species found in soil, dust, decomposing in vegetation fields, etc...

INFECTING AREAS



     This fungus named mucormycosis or zygomycosis spreads rapidly through the nose and sinuses face, jaw, eyes, and brain. India with diabetes patients is prone to get affected by this fungus. According to the May 2021 report, India filed nearly 12k cases of mucormycosis than any other country except China.

WORKING MECHANISM



    The fungus blocks the blood flow, which kills and infects the tissue and this necrotic tissue is the one responsible for the discoloration of the skin which is really by the skin rather than the fungus itself.
This is how the fungus functions in our body when we get affected by it.

FATALITY RATE



     Before the Pandemic according to the CDC report the mortality rate was mentioned as 54%. But due to this covid, a record of 101 cases was noted where 82 out of 101 were in India and remaining from other countries. In that record, 31% were found fatal.

PERSON-PERSON TRANSMISSION




     Several theories are founded in social media which are unfounded truly a myth. Mucormycosis is not a person-person transmission disease. Unless you have a SARS-Cov infection you no need to be isolated.  It is the source of environmental infection, airborne spread by fungi.

GROWING FUNGI




     There is another myth where this specific fungus grows in oxygen cylinders, water, and humidifiers. There is no such evidence and mycologists report that fungi can't spore in fluids.
So, don't believe in those myths.

POPULAR MYTHS




     Two more myths are whirling around social media with fake messages. One is Masks from the harbor carry fungus with them and the other is Onions which some black color formation which is mold. But the mold formation in onion is due to Aspergillus niger.

POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION



     Two studies from 2014 and 2016 show that hospitals poorly managed laundries are possible for fungus transmission.

2009 research shows that outbreaks in the ventilation system, adhesive bandages, ostomy bags.

They also highlight the infection through the skin via burns, catheter insertion sites, needlestick injuries, and insect bites.

 PROPER TREATMENT



     The only proven treatment for treating fungus is surgery by removing the necrotic tissue and the antifungal amphotericin B. India now faces a shortage of this drug.
